Routine 9 : Replacing the COPS hardware

The COPS hardware (Crystal Operated Paint Sensor) is located in the front tray of the trigger frame. I recommend viewing routine 8 if you have difficulty removing the trigger frame, as those steps are required to better access the COPS hardware. We'll begin by identifying the sensor, it's plastic rectangular shape with a yellow strip in a small central (circular) opening.

The sensor can be easily removed by popping it out from one of the sides. That foil tape should be removed with care as it does a great job in assisting with wire keep. If that wire leaves the channel when reinstalling the trigger frame and becomes pinched then the sensor unit will need to be replaced.

Once the sensor is removed from the trigger tray and the wire from the guide, gently unplug the green wire from the COPS port. The sensor is now removed and can be replaced.

In addition to the COPS sensor, there are two other essential hardware pieces (plus two o-rings) that must be present for the system to operate properly. The gas diverter plate (blue object) and the COPS rod (black rod). The two o-rings belong to the gas diverter plate, with the small one going on the center of the plate and the large one encompassing the gas diverter plate slot. The COPS rod goes into the body (extending up into the firing chamber) after the gas diverter plate is inserted.

The COPS rod extends up into firing chamber, centralized underneath the feedtube and equidistance to each ball detent. Problems testing the COPS sensor with the SENSI software can be viewed in routine 4.

Users have reported problems with breaking the COPS sensor when using straight shot squeegies, some even have problems with the HALO B loader. Much of the HALO problems can be eliminated by sanding the COPS rod down so it sits almost flush with the firing chamber but still passes (10/10) SENSI drop tests. An extra COPS rod is including in the spares kit that comes with all new markers from the factory. If the software is not passing the drop test there is a good chance that the COPS sensor will need to be replaced. Replacements can be obtained for $15-$20 at any WDP parts distributor.
